Native to Australia, the Emu is also a member of the Ratite family of birds and is the second largest bird in the world after the Ostrich.
Although actually a good bit smaller and significantly lighter in weight than the ostrich, Emus are still capable of running at up to 55km/h and living over 25 years.
Emu eggs are emerald green when laid, but darken somewhat soon after. They have internal volume approximately equivalent to 10 hen eggs.
Because of the different layers of colour in the shell, Emu eggs are great for craft activities such as etching and carving.
